Is Nigeria ready for a female president? Oby Ezekwesili certainly thinks so. The 2019 elections are literally around the corner, and the politicians are out in full swing to convince us that they’re the best for the job.
Most Nigerians have lost hope with politics and government, but Oby Ezekwesili’s presidential bid, under the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), brings new hope for two reasons – her impeccable track record and the fact that she’s a woman. In a recent interview with Christine Amanpour, Oby Ekwesili discussed her presidential ambition and the changes she intends to make as president.
She talked about how unacceptable it was that Nigeria had become the poverty capital of the world and that she intended to “build a nation that is based on prosperity, stability, cohesion, and equality of opportunities for our people.”
“I am a better candidate than the men that are in this race, and even they will tell you that. I’m simply going to keep on with the issues that I want to solve and be a problem solver,” she told CNN.

It’s pretty refreshing to see a woman of Ms Ezekwesili’s calibre going for the highest office in the country. A study by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) revealed that there is less than 15% participation of Nigerian women in political office.
The report mentions that out of 109 Senate seats, women currently occupy only 7 and only 22 of the 360 seats in the House of Representatives are occupied by women. There are currently 6 female deputy governors.
As much as Oby Ezekwesili appears to be a great candidate, Amanpour made a statement that got us thinking – “Every Nigerian President since the end of the military rule has come from one of 2 major political parties…”
Do candidates like Oby Ezekwesili stand a chance? Let’s vote and hope that they do!

Shes definitely entitled to her opinion
She is a preferred candidate to me
how can we know when we ve not had one before
This is really wonderful ooo
That’s her own opinion not ours
Now good things are witnessed
This Is Just Political Propaganda.
what else would she had said, i pray she wins
I will vote for her,,, she is confidence.
Oby is both a contestant and a judge. Maybe her judgement is right. What do you think?
She think so, cant really blame her because we’ve never had a female president
That totally sounds like an insult to me
it might be true cause the once we hard and have as a president are doing no good, she should be given a chance i think
She definitely
You know your self better
But she didn’t stand a better chance of winning that just it, our democracy hasn’t advance to that level
OUR FEMALE PRESIDOR CARRY GO
She is not the one to tell us that. She should illn the people to save her
I even like her too she is brave to say so
She what to follow this proverb that said what men can do woman can do better, she have fail
This is a good challenge to the other aspirants. They should also showcase what they intend to do and how they intend to transform Nigeria positively.
I hope our democracy in Nigeria will be ripe enough to accommodate her.
I want her to win but the APC vs PDP
One day Nigeria will have female but not now
If she has a point, then she should prove her assertion that she is better than all the men
a big challenge to the men folk
Well God can do it for her.
Esekwesili is talking for her own understanding
Okay ool
I think Nigerians should give female a chance as president, may be it will be better
Does she stand a chance? My answer is a capital NO. This country is not about being better, but by having the manipulating resources
She take a bold step and have strong faith But to say the fact the office of Nigeria president as at now is not for female
If a female want to be the president of this country… The law will be greatly respected. Not the thuggery means…
Freedom of expression
That’s based on her own judgement, but Nigerians judgement would decide
even if she content she can’t win how did a women we now be ruling a country
Apart from bad mouthing other contestants what else does she have to say?
Truly she is right but this is Nigeria
I hope she is as good as they say
Oby should just go and sit down even the Bible says women should not talk in a place were men are talking
Oh! Speaking in proverb, what a word
